چکیده
Results: Total laryngectomy was performed in 14/71 patients. Involvement of anterior commisure in local spreading of the cancer was found in 24/71 patients; total laryngectomy was performed in 13/24 and reconstructive surgery in 11/24. Selective resection of neck was done in 49 patients and metastases were found in 2 of these patients. Out of fifty-seven patients who had reconstructive laryngeal surgery local disease recurrence appeared in 8 patients. These 8 patients were treated with total laryngectomy. Overall 5-year survival was 90.1% with a slight difference between subcategories (89.1% subcategory I; 93.7% subcategory II) which was not statistically significant (p>0.05). Disease free 5-year survival was 83.6% with a difference between subcategories (81.1% subcategory I; 93.3% subcategory II) which was not statistically significant (p>0.05).

Pleomorphic Adenoma of the Larynx: A Case Report
Introduction: Pleomorphic adenomas are tumors mostly originating from salivary glands. These lesions in the larynx are very rare. Case Report: We report a rare case of pleomorphic adenoma that originated from the mucosal lining, just above the glottic area at the level of the laryngeal ventricle in a 55-year-old female patient. The tumor could not be palpated easily but was observed in the C...
متن کاملSupratracheal laryngectomy: current indications and contraindications
Cancer of the larynx in the intermediate/advanced stage still presents a major challenge in terms of controlling the disease and preserving the organ. Supratracheal partial laryngectomy (STPL) has been described as a function-sparing surgical procedure for laryngeal cancer with sub-glottic extension. The aim of the present multi-institutional study was to focus on the indications and contraindi...

Introduction: A rare case of basaloid squamous cell carcinoma (BSCC) of the larynx, which has not been previously reported, is described. Case Report: A 60-year-old man was presented to the Otolaryngology Department with progressive dyspnoea and dysphagia to solids for over a period of 1 week. Direct laryngoscopy revealed a tumour at the laryngeal aspect of the epiglottis, which prolapsed into...
متن کاملEvaluation of treatment results with regard to initial anterior commissure involvement in early glottic carcinoma treated by external partial surgery or transoral laser microresection.
BACKGROUND Modalities of surgical treatment of early glottic carcinoma include transoral laser microresection and external partial surgery. METHODS This is a retrospective analysis of 119 glottic carcinomas treated by external partial surgery (57 pT1a, 1 pT1b, 10 pT2) or transoral laser microresection (46 pT1a, 4 pT1b, 1 pT2) with special regard to initial anterior commissure involvement. R...
متن کاملStaging of Laryngeal and Hypopharyngeal Cancer: Computed Tomography versus Histopathology
Introduction: Computed tomography (CT) imaging is the choice of investigation for evaluation of extent of tumor under the mucosa, locally and regionally. This study was undertaken to assess the accuracy of preoperative CT imaging in the staging of carcinoma of the larynx and hypopharynx. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, all cases who were clinically (c) staged T3–T4 and w...
